Description: The Umbra Witches were a clan of European dark art practitioners from ancient times, who Hermaeus mora is descended from. Their affinity is to Inferno, darkness, and the moon. Making pacts with demons in order to posses their extraordinary abilities, the Umbra Witches are fluent in using the Bullet Arts as a fighting technique and in the use of "Witch time", mirroring the Lumen sages' "Light speed".

 

Characteristics: Through the harnessing of Spirit Energy, Umbran Witches were practitioners of magic revolving around the influence of the moon and the evocation of beings from Inferno. While well versed in the supernatural and metaphysical arts, they were also keen in the arts of alchemy, chemistry, martial arts, medicine, anatomical health, and what could be assumed, various sciences and technological prowess of many sorts.An all female clan of witches as per namesake but men have now been allowed into their mists , their ranks included only those who could harness spirit energy by birth, and those who were strong enough to survive their brutal courses of training and study. Those powerful enough to become heiresses of the entire clan matriarchy also undergo an intense duel to prove their worth; the role of leader is also entrusted with watching over the Left Eye Of The World.

 

History: The Umbra Witches were one half of two clans who worked hard to maintain the balance of the world's light and dark forces in order to ensure the just passage of time. They paid great respect to each other and, from the existence of the Golem, they once had worked together for reasons unknown. Like the Lumen Sages, the Umbra Witches possessed an "Eye", part of a set which were know as the "Eyes of the World" that oversaw history and time itself.

 

Abilities: They can create demonic beings using their hair/mane.

They channel their power from the moon and shadows around them.

Religion: Phantasmaraneae.

Phantasmaraneae is summoned against Sapientia, who is forced to the fiery spider by Madama Butterfly's arms. The demon proceeds to slash Sapientia, ripping off one of his horns and part of his face. Later in the battle, Phantasmaraneae repeats its attack, taking off the Auditio's other horn. The massive spider is unleashed once more to finish off the battered angel, trapping him on a web in the whirlpool he created. As Sapientia struggles to free himself, smaller versions of Phantasmaraneae approach him and tear his body to shreds, leaving only his head. Phantasmaraneae nests upon a sea of magma, deep within the furthest reaches of Inferno. Rarely seen upon the face of the Earth, even sightings of the demon in hell are a seldom event, leading to its name, which means phantom spider.While having the frightening appearance of a spider, it is a curious beast, and should one have the good fortune to encounter the Phantasmaraneae, one should treat it with care and respect, in hope of receiving rare treasures and secrets in return
